Christmas Concert Ticketing System Overwhelmed

SALT LAKE CITY — Demand for tickets to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert was so great the automated ticketing system both on the Internet and at the Conference Center ticket office was overloaded Monday. While there are still seats available, patrons are asked to be patient until the computer systems are restored, says Doug Balls, Conference Center assistant manager.

"We have done well at anticipating Internet demand for tickets for important events like the Christmas concerts," says Balls. "Our systems handled more than 200,000 requests for the "Light of the World" event last February, but since then many more people are using Internet ticketing."

Balls says all of the four performances of the concert have seats available. People will be able to order free tickets via the Internet or at the Conference Center ticket office as soon as the computer systems are working again.

No tickets are available by telephone.

People interested in ordering tickets should check the Internet at www.lds.org/events each day. For further information about the concert, see the news release titled "Walter Cronkite Joins the Mormon Tabernacle Choir as Guest Narrator for Christmas Concerts."
