A dangerous fire in Utah devoured 3,500 acres, and in the process destroyed three homes and threatened dozens of others. The blaze, which began over the weekend in Herriman, caused 1,500 families to be temporarily displaced. The fire did bring neighbors to the aid of neighbors.
Neighbors quickly organized to put together lunch bags to provide food and water to emergency service personnel and affected homeowners. More than 270 firefighters, police officers and National Guardsmen took part in the fire fighting and evacuation effort.
At a temporary shelter, the American Red Cross and the Utah/Idaho Southern Baptist Convention combined to prepare meals with food provided by local businesses and the Sandy Bishops' Storehouse.
The city of Herriman is comprised mainly of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
