Church Assists Hurricane Victims in Haiti, Prepares to Render Aid in Texas - News Release

Two planes carrying over 47,000 pounds of supplies took to the air from Salt Lake City on Wednesday bound for the Caribbean nation of Haiti. Containing hand soap, rolls of plastic sheeting, hammers, nails and hygiene kits, the pallets of supplies are meant to provide relief as Haitians work to recover from the effects of Hurricane Ike — the fourth major storm to lash into Haiti in the last month. The supplies were provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Full Story

Alcohol: A Focus on Health and Safety


While The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches its members to avoid alcohol altogether, it acknowledges that alcoholic beverages are available to the public. The Church has always called for reasonable regulations to (1) limit overconsumption, (2) reduce impaired driving and (3) work to eliminate underage drinking. Did You Know?

New Nursery Manual Available

The Church has released a new manual for parents and teachers of nursery-age children. It provides lesson ideas and resources to assist young children in learning principles such as faith, prayer, gratitude and sharing. In a video promoting the new manual, Church leaders suggest it could be used by families in the home, as well as in Church Sunday nursery classes. Full Story

Physician Sees Benefits of Mormon Health Code in Reducing Cancer Risk

Health guidelines taught by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 175 years help in the fight against many forms of cancer, according to a Kansas City Cancer Center physician. In this month’s edition of the Church magazine the Ensign, Dr. William T.
